Oribe-ware is a type of Japanese pottery characterized by a green, copper glaze and boldly painted design.
It was the first use of coloured stoneware glaze by Japanese potters.
As one of the Mino styles originating in the late 16th century, it takes its name from the tea master Furuta Oribe (1544-1615).
The clay body has a high content of iron, and is formed by hand on a potter’s wheel.
Setoyaki (Seto City, Aichi Prefecture) is home to one of the six main kilns of Japanese pottery.
The six main places of Japanese ceramic ware are: Setoyaki, Tokoname, Echizen, Shigarakiyaki, Tambayaki, Bizenyaki.
