Susudake Chashaku (Takayama, Ikoma, Nara Japan):
Susudake is bamboo that is taken from old, straw-thatched house ceilings where it has changed to an auburn colour by absorbing smoke from the irori (sunken-hearth) for decades, sometimes even centuries. Its natural golden-brown colour makes it a very admirable and desired item.
