NK-015 Shozansaku-Shino Matcha Bowl (Aichi Prefecture, Setoyaki)
An astounding piece of art that combines colours of stark contrast, made with both clay and porcelain. Shino-ware is a type of Japanese pottery characterized by thick white glazes, red scorch marks, and a texture of small holes. Firings of Shino tend to be at lower temperatures for longer periods of time, followed by a slow cooling process. These conditions do not allow the glaze to melt fully, and the result is a thick glaze that often has a crawling pattern.
Setoyaki (Seto City, Aichi Prefecture) is home to one of the six main kilns of Japanese pottery.
The six main places of Japanese ceramic ware are: Setoyaki, Tokoname, Echizen, Shigarakiyaki, Tambayaki, Bizenyaki.
